High Risk Pregnancy

A pregnancy is considered high-risk when there are potential problems that could affect the mother, baby, or both.

The health risks could affect

  • The mother before pregnancy;
  • Both the mother and baby during pregnancy, during delivery or after delivery.

High-risk pregnancy management requires 24 hours access to a multi-disciplinary team of experienced obstetricians, nurses, anesthesiologists, neonatologists and other specialists dedicated to the care of the mother and the baby.

At SBOBGYN, High Risk Pregnancy clinic caters to

  • Women with recurrent miscarriages, previous pregnancy losses and neonatal mishaps.
  • Pregnant women with medical problems like diabetes and high blood pressure (pre-existing or which developed in pregnancy), thyroid disorders, heart problems, autoimmune problems (APLA, LUPUS, Arthritis etc.,), blood disorders, organ diseases and connective tissue disorders who are managed in consultation with appropriate specialists.
  • Babies with growth restriction (IUGR), macrosomia (bigbaby), prematurity, twins, triplets etc.

Counselling is an important aspect of this clinic where the doctors spend quality time not only to optimise the care but to counsel couple/family in a compassionate manner.

Dr. Latha Venkataram holding FRCOG(UK) & MRCP(I) has been managing the high risk Pregnancy Unit for more than 25 years. She is joined by Dr. Srimathy Raman who is a highly qualified specialist in this area.

High-risk pregnancy clinics are run twice a week on Mondays and Fridays
